Editorial Policy

This page explains how we test matcha and the standards behind every recommendation on MatchaNest. If you want to know whether you can trust a ranking here, this is the page to read.

Independence first

We are independent. We buy the matcha, whisks, bowls, and sets we review ourselves, and we accept no payment, free product, or sponsorship in exchange for a favorable review or placement. A brand cannot pay to rank higher. If that ever changes for a specific item, we will say so plainly on the page.

How we test

Every matcha is whisked the same way: sifted, prepared as usucha with water around 175°F using a proper bamboo chasen, and the better grades are also tried as thick koicha. We judge color, foam, the balance of umami and bitterness, and the aftertaste. Tools and bowls are tested over weeks of real daily use, not a single trial. We describe our process in each guide so you can see how we reached a verdict.

How we choose products

We focus on products that are widely available, well regarded, and that we can actually buy and try. We deliberately include honest negatives, and we leave products off our lists when they do not earn a place. A short, trustworthy list beats a long, padded one.

Accuracy and corrections

We never invent prices, star ratings, or stock levels, and we never fabricate certifications or test results. Matcha is a natural product and formulas, packaging, and availability change, so always confirm details on the retailer’s own page before buying. If we get something wrong, tell us through our contact page and we will correct it promptly.

Affiliate relationship

MatchaNest earns affiliate commissions, which keep the site running. This is disclosed in full on our affiliate disclosure page and never influences our editorial judgment. Learn more about MatchaNest and the person behind the reviews.
